Flockers: new IP from Team17
Posted in In Development by SupSuper at 28/03/14 2:30pm CDT

"New from Team17 - Flockers is a twisted blend of Lemmings' inspired gameplay and Tim Burton style macabre, all topped off with a dose of that classic Worms humour!

Held for years within the evil thrall of the Worms, the sheep are finally making a dash for freedom! Escaping the tyrannical Worms, the flock must dodge their way past all manner of lethal machinery and traps as they negotiate their path through the confinement of the Worms weapons factory and onwards to pastures green.

Flockers will be coming to PC via Steam Early Access in Q2 2014."

Well that came out of nowhere. Not much else is known, but you can check the official Facebook for upcoming details.

Amiga Game Wrappers for Mac OS X
Posted in Amiga Classics by SupSuper at 19/03/14 12:11am CDT

Love classic Amiga games but can't be bothered to set up an emulator just to replay them? Well you're in luck, Amigoianer has been developing game wrappers for Mac OS X that include a pre-configured emulator for various Amiga games, so you can play them as simply as any other application. You just need the appropriate game disk files and Amiga ROMs to use them.

Currently the only available Team17 games are Alien Breed and Overdrive, but we hope to see more added later. Smile

Worms Battlegrounds coming to next-gen consoles

Worms Battlegrounds is the name of the newly announced Worms game, proving that Team17 still hasn't run out of words to put next to "Worms". This will be Team17's first title on the new next-gen consoles, slated for release in 2014 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Team17 back in the publishing business
Posted in Team17 Company News by SupSuper at 16/11/13 2:45pm CST

If you've thumbed through the Softography+, you've noticed a lot of titles with another developer's title on them. Back in the Amiga days Team17 didn't develop everything themselves, they often acted as a publisher for other parties to help them out with their success on the platform. However once the Amiga died out, they went back to being just another developer maintaining a presence on the PC with the help of other publishers.

Fast-forward to now, when thanks to digital distribution Team17 is back to being their own man, and now they've decided it's time to return to the publishing business as well. The first title under their mantle is Light, an indie stealth infiltration game currently making its rounds through Greenlight. We'll be featuring these titles here just like any other Team17 game.

Not many details about it so far, besides that it'll be building up on its predecessor, and feature some form of clan wars. Probably.

If you're in the UK, Team17 will be unveiling it as well as Superfrog HD over at Rezzed (I hear other companies will be there too but who cares about those Razz), so maybe go check it out and let us know what all the fuss is about.

Team17 Forum shutting down
Posted in Other Stuff by SupSuper at 08/06/13 9:31am CDT

After more than 10 years of service, the Official Team17 Forum is shutting down. You might think why it's such a big deal, a forum going away, it's just a website, big whoop.

Well, for me, it was the first online community I ever joined when I got this new-fangled thing called the Internet. And it was a nice place. Everyone was nice and friendly, people discussed all kinds of things, crazy forum games, amazing fan-art, terrible in-jokes, and more. Even Team17 occasionally interacted in there. It was a very silly fun place. I learned a lot of stuff and met a lot of nice people that I still talk to this very day. It was an invaluable experience of my life.

I'm sure a lot of Dream17 staff feel this way. Hell, if it wasn't for the forum, most of us probably would've never met and Dream17 itself would've never existed. How about that! So you know, credit where credit is due and all that. But times change. Team17 changed. The forum ain't what it used to be anymore, and these days it's all social this and blog that, so I understand Team17's decision. No point in clinging to the past really.

But here at Dream17, we're all about clinging to the past! So we've decided to bring back the old Dream17 Forum to fill in for the official forum's absence. Join us in waxing nostalgia and whatever else. Bring back some of that old comunity charm. Oh and we also have a Facebook and Steam Group now if, you know, you're into those things.

Classic Amiga games on Blackberry and other obscure news
Posted in Amiga Classics by SupSuper at 16/03/13 2:39pm CDT

If you told me someone would be officially porting Amiga games to Blackberry in 2013, I'd say you're out of your mind! Yet here we are. Amiga Inc. has partnered up with BlackBerry to bring your favorite Amiga games to BlackBerry Playbook and Z10 devices.

There's already a lot of titles available on BlackBerry World, with many more to come! You'll notice classics like Turrican and Gods, and of course all your favorite Team17 titles (but no Worms?). The new touch controller seems kinda finicky, but hey it's another chance to relive the classics, let us know what you think. Smile

On other news, Hallfiry managed to tracked down various info on Team17's unreleased RPG, Witchwood, including promotional screenshots, trailers and even a tech demo! Surprising how a title can still get canned after so much development and marketing got put into it.

Worms Revolution gets classy
Posted in Worms by SupSuper at 05/05/12 6:14am CDT

That's right, Worms is jumping into this new-fangled thing called classes. Worms Revolution will feature 4 classes you can have on your team, each has different pros/cons but they all have access to the same weapons, and you can mix and match classes in your team however you see fit. If this is too much for you there'll still be a Classic mode.

Soldier - Your traditional classic worm. Nothing special about him, he's just the average all-rounder these games always gotta have.

Scientist - The support guy. He's the weakest and slowest, but he raises your team's health for every turn he's around. He can also deploy stronger items, making his Sentry Guns and Electromagnets more effective.

Heavy - Causes the most damage, but his bigger size also makes him the easiest to hit. His heavy bulk makes him much harder to get around the map, even with the help of utilities, but it also means he won't get pushed around as much.

Scout - The most agile, being able to easily get around the map with faster movement and bigger jumps, as well as taking less fall damage. However he causes less damage, and his small size makes him a lot easier to push around the map, although it also makes him harder to hit.

Worms Revolution map themes
Posted in In Development by SupSuper at 19/04/12 9:50am CDT

Team17 has been revealing some new map themes along the week on their Facebook, first with concept art and now in-game screenshots:

I'm really liking the new style in use, more detailed and charming than before, and the maps seem to be a lot bigger this time around with more varied designs.

Worm Mad reports that the stylistic choice is inspired by Honey I Shrunk The Kids, which is pretty spiffy.

Worms Ultimate Mayhem updated, includes Worms 3D maps
Posted in Worms by SupSuper at 14/04/12 6:38pm CDT

After around half an year, a Worms Ultimate Mayhem update arrives! It includes various bugfixes and performance improvements, as well as the Worms 3D maps the community has been pretty much demanding since release.

...I'm not sure why. They still look and play as bad (if not worse) as they did 10 years ago. This is what makes a remake worth it, keeping all the lousy features of the past?

Andy Davidson back with Team17
Posted in T17 Staff & Former Staff by SupSuper at 02/04/12 4:35am CDT

Andy Davidson returns to Team 17 to scratch a creative itch he’s had for fourteen years!

Ossett, Yorkshire, UK – Monday 2nd April, 2012 – In a week when Team17 announced, Worms™ Revolution, its most significant release of recent years, the UK’s oldest independent developer is delighted to reveal another surprise to its fans - the return of Worms creator, Andy Davidson.

At the height of his career, Andy quit the games industry to pursue other interests. “I left Team17 feeling I hadn’t finished what I wanted to achieve, but for professional reasons I knew I had to walk away”, commented Andy. “I’ve returned to scratch the creative itch that’s been bothering me for the last fourteen years. It’s nice to be back at Team17, it’s as though there’s been a revolution in the studio itself - there’s a real creative buzz about the place.”

Team17 Managing Director, Debbie Bestwick, is particularly pleased at the errant son’s homecoming. “I’d always hoped Andy would return but never thought it would actually happen. The passion he shows for Worms is almost palpable and I’m looking forward to see how his injection of fresh enthusiasm into an already highly motivated and skilled team will affect things.”

Andy will begin by offering the Worms™ Revolution developers his support. “The engine and physics in Worms™ Revolution are awesome, the team have developed a truly landmark game. I’ll be lending them my insight to ensure that the game balance is true to the spirit of the brand.” In addition, fans will be delighted to know that Andy has been working on a variety of new game ideas. Exciting times are ahead for Team17.

Could the return of Worms' original creator actually drastically change the course of the franchise? Or will the fans keep being dusty old cynics about it? My thoughts are... maybe.

Worms Revolution announced for 2012
Posted in In Development by SupSuper at 31/03/12 2:25pm CDT

Following a much anticipated "big announcement" back in 19th, Team17 has revealed they're working on a new Worms game to celebrate the franchise's 17th anniversary:

WORMS REVOLUTION ANNOUNCED

In 1995 gamers were introduced to crazy world of Worms™, the madcap, turn-based strategy game from the twisted mind of Andy Davidson. Fast forward seventeen years and everyone’s favourite invertebrates are back!

Team17 is proud to announce the forthcoming release of Worms™ Revolution. The game has been developed from the ground up and features a completely new game-engine. Exciting new features and challenges have been introduced whilst old favourites such as the Super Sheep and Holy Hand Grenade remain to thrill fans worldwide.

Worms™ Revolution is scheduled for a Q3 2012 release and will appear on PC and consoles.

Short teaser trailer available here:

While I don't consider another Worms game a "big announcement", it sure seems different from the usual, with a completely different style, weird worm shapes and fluid-based weapons. Who knows what this could develop into.

Nothing major, but I'll at least keep the website up to date with the latest Team17 news and Softography updates. I've also fixed the Contact system for anyone that might've tried to contact us before (apparently we lost our e-mails with the domain as well, sorry about that).

CAPTCHA now in effect
Posted in Dream17 by SupSuper at 26/09/08 10:20pm CDT

I didn't want it to come to this. I didn't want to get this far. But idiots will always be idiots and will force me to take drastic effects to stop them from clutting up the database with spam. Therefore, the comments have been upgraded to Level 8 Security.

This means that there's now a CAPTCHA for comments. I know, I know, I hate these things as much as you so I've tried to make this as simple as possible. To post a comment, you need to type in the title of the game's boxart that shows up next to the comment form.

The system is pretty tolerant so you don't have to type in the full title. (no abbreviations though) If you still can't get it right, you can click on the boxart to get a full picture, or just look the name up in the Softography. Or if that isn't enough, just keep refreshing until you get a game you can guess.

Feel free to try it out on this post. Razz

Downloads restored
Posted in Dream17 by SupSuper at 10/07/07 6:12pm CDT

Alright, the downloads have been restored. However, we've taken measures to ensure that yesterday's events don't repeat themselves. We've cut off all direct links and hotlinking to prevent any unforseen leeching, and we'll now be monitoring closely all the transfers on the site.

For now we'll keep the downloads unrestricted for analysis, but as soon as we find out our high-demand files, we'll be limiting or removing them altogether to ensure the rest of the site can still be used, at least until we can find a server that can handle it all.

Downloads taken offline... again
Posted in Dream17 by SupSuper at 09/07/07 6:36pm CDT

Evening, ladies and gents,

As you can see from the news below, we've managed to find a replacement host. Unfortunately, due to what we think is direct linking to our downloads, we're close to maxing our transfer allowance for today! It currently stands at about 116GB. As you'll agree, that's a hell of a lot. So because of this, we have temporarily disabled our downloads to prevent our service being disabled.

Our web content is still online, which many of you (hopefully) will realise is the most important thing. We'll be looking at ways to reduce server load whilst still offering a convenient service to our visitors.

Thanks for your patience.
